Bulldogs Complete Series Sweep Over Mount St. Mary's

Diamond Dawgs earn first shutout since June 30, 2021
Khal Stephen drew the start for the Diamond Dawgs in game one, picking up his first victory of the year. He struck out nine Mountaineers, allowed no earned runs, and just one walk in six complete innings of work. The duo of Gavin Black and Luke Dotson closed the game for the Bulldogs, allowing just two hits, one earned run, and two walks while striking out three.
David Mershon and Dakota Jordan again led the way at the plate today. Mershon went 3-for-4 with one RBI, and Jordan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs that came from his two-run bomb to left center field. Dylan Cupp and Joe Powell both went 1-for-3 while combining for three RBIs.
Mississippi State secured the first sweep of the season with a 6-0 win over Mount St. Mary's in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Diamond Dawgs' 6-0 win is the first shutout since 2021 when State beat Vanderbilt 9-0 to win the national championship.
Dylan Cupp continued to be hot at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a hit and two RBIs in game two. Cupp's single to right field plated Logan Kohler to bring the Dawgs up 5-0 in the seventh. David Mershon drove in State's sixth run with a single to center field and scored Cupp. Mershon went 1-for-4 at the plate and pushed in an RBI.
Jurrangelo Cijntje got the start on the mound. Cijntje put in 6.2 innings of work and struck out 10, a career high. Cam Schuelke, Nolan Stevens, and Tyson Hardin pitched a combined 2.1 relief innings and allowed just two hits with three punchouts.
Mississippi State is back in action Tuesday night at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss., against Southern Miss at 6 p.m. The midweek contest will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
