STARKVILLE- The Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs return to action Tuesday afternoon for a midweek contest against Jackson State at Dudy Noble Field with first pitch is set for 3 p.m.

Quick Hitters
- Amani Larry leads the Diamond Dawgs offense with a .382 batting average through eight games. Larry went 5-for-11 in the weekend series against Georgia Southern, collecting a double and two RBIs. Larry has put up at least one hit in every game so far the season.
- David Mershon was lightning hot for the Dawgs in the three-game series against Georgia Southern. Mershon went to the plate 13 times in the series and collected six hits, four coming from the series finale on Sunday, Feb. 25. Mershon holds a .462 batting average through three games.
- The Diamond Dawgs have been pounding the strike zone this season and have tallied 96 punchouts this season. Each player whose been on the mound this season, has at least one strikeout. Over the first two weekends of the season, the Diamond Dawgs have tallied 36 punchouts as a staff.
- Friday night starter Nate Dohm has been dominating this season. He has made two starts, opening day and last Saturday, and has only allowed 10 hits this season. He has pitched 10 2/3 innings on the year and has 14 punchouts while only allowing opponents to hit .244 against him. In his last outing against Georgia Southern, Dohm set game-highs for his performance in the Maroon and White. He pitched a high of 6 2/3 innings on the season and tallied his first double-digit strikeout game as a Dawg, with 10. He picked up his first win of the season on Friday night.
- Brooks Auger has returned to the pen for the Diamond Dawgs in 2024. He has one of two arms out of the bullpen that has been used four times this season. Prior to pitching opening weekend for the Dawgs, Augers last outing was April 14, 2022, against Auburn. He made his season debut against Air Force on Feb. 17. His longest outing of the season came on Feb. 20 when he pitched 2 2/3 of an inning against Austin Peay.
- Junior infielder/outfielder Hunter Hines enters the 2024 season as a Third Team Preseason All-American by Perfect Game. Â Hines has showed his power over his first two seasons in the Maroon and White. He has hit 38 homers over that span. The 38 home runs are the third most by an active player in the SEC. Tommy White (52) and Jac Caglianone (41) are the only active players ahead of Hines. The 38 home runs are the seventh most by an active player in the division 1 baseball.
- Following a freshman season that saw Dakota Jordan show off his power by hitting tape measure homers, the sophomore is ready for his second season in the Maroon and White. On Feb. 9, Jordan was one of 55 players in the nation that were named to the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List. The Golden Spikes award to the best amateur baseball player in the nation
- On Opening Day, Bryce Chance hit is first home run of the season. It was the second straight year he had hit an Opening Day home run. He also hit one in 2023. He is one of three players in the nation to hit a homer on Opening Day in 2023 and 2024.
- The Dude Effect is going strong. Reserved seating has once again sold out for the season. Mississippi State has sold out reserved seating since 1987.
- Jackson State enters the midweek matchup with a 6-2 record. The Tigers were on a six-game winning streak before falling 7-3 to Mississippi Valley State on Sunday, Feb. 25. Jackson State ended last season with a 28-25 record.
- Joseph Eichelberger leads the Tigers with a .692 batting average with 18 hits and 16 RBIs through 26 plate appearances.
- As a team, the Tigers are hitting .324 and have three players hitting over .300 to start the season. The pitching staff has a 4.29 ERA and have struck out 78 hitters this season.
- MSU and Jackson State meet for the 63rd time on Tuesday when the Tigers travel to Dudy Noble Field.
- Mississippi State last faced off against Jackson State April 19, 2022, and won 17-2 over the Tigers.
- Mississippi State leads the all-time series 54-8. The Dawgs have won the last five matchups.
- The first matchup between these two programs came during the 1976 season, when MSU won 5-3 on April 21.
