MSU Hits The Road To Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Mississippi State volleyball team heads to Baton Rouge for a match against LSU on Sunday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
First serve is slated for 5 p.m. CT and will be televised nationally by SEC Network. The Bulldogs and Tigers have met 77 times, with MSU winning the last three out of four matchups.
"Going into LSU, we know this is a tough place to play," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "We are going to have to be focused on playing our best volleyball on our side of the net. We need to control what we can control, work hard to play great defense and win the serve and pass game. I think we have put in some good work and our team is ready to fight and compete. Hail State!"
Right side Amina Shackelford has registered 1.88 kills per set and 0.90 blocks per set. She recorded five blocks versus No. 12 Tennessee (09/29) on Friday and leads the team with a total of 43 blocks.
Karli Schmidt has ripped 3.40 kills per set on a .252 hitting percentage. She has reeled in 10-plus kills in 10 out of 13 matches.
Sophie Agee has had a stellar sophomore campaign, managing 2.47 kills and 2.18 digs per set. She tallied a career-high 21 kills and 21 digs against Western Michigan (09/08).
Caylee Sharkey has secured 1.10 kills per set, while, Sanaa Williams has provided 0.84 kills per set and 1.00 blocks per set.
Mississippi State setters, Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther, have combined to dish out 432 assists and 161 digs. Individually, Goede has issued 4.85 assists per set and three double-doubles on the season. Oerther has provided 4.23 assists per set and three double-doubles for the year.
Libero Lauren Myrick has reeled in 10-plus digs during 12 of 13 matches. She has eclipsed 20-plus digs in four matches this season, fueled by a career-best 27 digs against Louisiana (08/27). Myrick's 4.46 digs per set is fourth among SEC liberoes.
Mary Neal, a defensive specialist, has started her freshman season off with 2.17 digs per set.Â
