Stamatis Promoted To Assistant Coach
June 30, 2023 | Volleyball
STARKVILLE – Former Mississippi State volleyball standout and director of operations Alleah Stamatis will be promoted to assistant coach with the Bulldogs effective July 1.
Stamatis will join head coach Julie Darty Dennis' staff and work in all aspects of the program including recruiting, day-to-day operations, scouting and working with the volleyball student-athletes.
"When we found out that we would be able to hire an additional assistant coach on our staff, there was not even a question in my mind on who I would hire," Dennis said. "There was only one option, and that option was Alleah Stamatis. Alleah has made a huge impact already and she has built some real relationships here. She will only be able to make a bigger mark on this program now that she is in a coaching role. I am beyond excited to continue to have her next to me on the bench, just with a different title that she has worked so hard for and wholeheartedly deserves."
Stamatis, a native of Lexington, Ky., served as Mississippi State's director of volleyball operations for the past two seasons. She managed team travel, match operations and assisted in stat keeping during matches and practices.
Before her time as the director of operations, Stamatis played under Dennis as a freshman and sophomore at Jacksonville (2016-17), then made the move to Mississippi State (2018-19) as a transfer when Dennis accepted the head coaching job at MSU in 2018. The Bulldog setter had two great seasons in the Maroon and White, including a 2019 senior campaign in which she became just the seventh Bulldog to eclipse 1,000 assists in a single season.
"Alleah has been with me since my arrival in Starkville, and she has been through so much with me as a player and staff member," Dennis said. "I don't want to do this job without her, and she is more than ready to step into this coaching role. I am so proud of Alleah and her playing and coaching journey. I am really excited to see how she continues to grow and develop in this new position."
At Jacksonville, Stamatis was a second team All-Atlantic Sun selection after her sophomore season in which she finished No. 2 in the ASUN in assists (1,038) and collected 50 or more assists in seven matches.
After her playing career in November of 2020, Stamatis was named a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Diversity Award, which allowed her to participate in a series of educational, developmental and relationship building experiences in conjunction with the 2020 AVCA Virtual Convention. The award was sponsored by SEC assistant coaches.
