OXFORD – The Mississippi State track and field program completed the first day of competition at the 2023 Joe Walker Invitational on Friday in Oxford, Mississippi.

The meet continues on Saturday at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the field events getting underway. Running events are set to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Oxford.

On Friday, Tyriq Horsford brought home first place in the men's javelin throw with a season-best mark of 72.01m (236-3), while Trent Zelden finished sixth after his throw of 58.11m (190.7).

On the women's side, Asia Poe placed second in the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.04m (19-9.75), while Emma Hunt also placed second in the pole vault with a new outdoor personal-best mark of 4.02m (13-2.25).
