Jones Wins The High Jump; Seven Bulldogs Earn Top-15 Finishes on Day One of the Tom Jones Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Mississippi State track and field team concluded the first day of the Tom Jones Memorial Invite in Gainesville, Fla. with an individual victory in the high jump by Tony Jones and a total of seven top 15 finishes to round out the first day.
Jones, a graduate from Wake Forest, earned his first event win of the outdoor season on Friday. Jones hit a career-best outdoor mark in the high jump of 2.19m (7'2.25") which was good for the sixth best jump in the NCAA this season.
Daniel Pepper, in the first event of the meet, placed third in the hammer throw. Pepper set a season best distance with his 59.79m (196'2"). The distance ranks in the top 100 in the NCAA this season.
Saturday's competition will begin at 8 a.m. CST with the women's discus and conclude at 5 p.m. CST with the men's 4x400 relay. Admission for free to everyone who wants to attend the meet. Florida will be honoring their 26 seniors throughout the event, with 14 being honored on Friday and 12 on Saturday.
