
Hancock Named to the 2023 Buster Posey Catcher of the Year Watch List

STARKVILLE – Senior backstop Luke Hancock was named to the 2023 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List by the Wichita Sports Commission. Sixty-five catchers were nominated for the award by their school, and the award is given annually to the top Division I collegiate catcher.

The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, to be announced on May 22, 2023. Ballots are sent to the national voting committee at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists are announced on June 6, 2023, with the final vote among national committee members occurring during the College World Series.

Hancock, the captain of the 2023 Diamond Dawgs, has the third-best batting average on the team, going 13-for-38 (.342) on the season. He has an on-base percentage of .509 this season and has drawn 12 walks. He has one home run and five doubles this season, along with driving in eight runs over the Dawgs' first 12 games of the season.Â

The Dawgs return to action on Tuesday when they host Valparaiso at 6 p.m. at Dudy Noble Field.
