Multiple Bulldogs scored points on the first day of the SEC Indoor Championships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Mississippi State track and field program enjoyed a record-breaking day with multiple Bulldogs scoring points on the first day of the SEC Indoor Championships in Fayetteville.
Mississippi State's Cameron Crump claimed the gold medal and 10 points for the Bulldogs while setting a new SEC Championship and school record in the men's long jump with a mark 8.39m (27-6.50). His mark also made him the national leader in the men's long jump. The previous SEC Championship mark was held by JuVaughn Harrison of LSU in 2021. Crump now currently ranks No. 2 worldwide, while his mark is tied for the fifth longest jump in NCAA history.
On the women's side, Asia Poe scored three points for the Bulldogs following her performance in the pentathlon (60mH, HJ, SP, LJ, 800m). Poe finished the event with a total of 4,042 points over five events to place sixth overall, while teammate Alexandra Woodberry finished 10th with a total of 3,766 points.
In the heptathlon, MSU freshman Peyton Bair (3,199 points) closed out the first day of action in third place after claiming personal-bests in all four of the events held on Friday, including the 60m dash, long jump, shot put and high jump. The heptathlon concludes on Saturday with the final three events (60mH, 1000m, Pole Vault).
Kamaya Debose-Epps did her part by breaking a pair of school records that had stood since 1988. Debose-Epps started the day with a record-breaking time of 7.38 in the women's 60m before following up with another MSU record with her time of 23.48 in the women's 200m.
State's distance medley relay crew (Daniel Joyce, Lee Eppie, Tyrese Reid, Navasky Anderson), who entered the meet unranked, racked up two team points for the Bulldogs after finishing seventh with a time of 9:47.67 to close out the final event of the day.
Maddy Kish hauled in four points for the women by finishing fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.11m (13-5.75).
