The Dawgs earned a top 5 transfer classes by D1 Baseball
STARKVILLE – After D1 Baseball announced the top 100 impact transfers and the top 50 JUCO transfers, they now have announced the Top 25 Transfer Classes. The Diamond Dawgs have the fourth-ranked transfer class according to D1 Baseball.
Every team has a different combination of needs and philosophies regarding roster construction. This year, D1 Baseball broke up the newcomer rankings into two lists: the top 25 freshman classes and the top 25 transfer classes. D1 Baseball included JUCO transfers in with all the other transfers because the immediacy and duration of the impact of a JUCO transfer are more in line with the impact of a four-year transfer, even though the recruiting process for a JUCO transfer is more similar to the recruiting process for a freshman.
Earlier this season, D1 Baseball had six Dawgs listed in the Top 100 Transfers. Headlining the group was outfielder Colton Ledbetter, who was the No. 5 ranked transfer on the list. Ledbetter has already claimed one preseason All-American honor by Perfect Game. Last season, he hit 16 homers and 16 doubles at Samford.
Also earning rankings in the Top 100 Impact Transfers were Landon Gartman, Amani Larry, Nate Dohm, Aaron Nixon, and Connor Hujsak. To view more on the Impact Transfer, click here.
The Maroon and White also had Tyson Hardin, and Colby Holcombe earn honors in the Top 50 JUCO Transfers from D1 Baseball. To view more on the Top JUCO Transfers, click here.
Two other transfers to keep an eye on for the Dawgs are Graham Yntema and Tyler Davis. Yntema fills up the strike zone and can miss bats with his curveball. Davis spent time at VCU as a starter and a reliever and made 15 starts as a sophomore but had five saves as a freshman.
The 2023 season gets underway on Feb. 17 when the Diamond Dawgs host VMI in a three-game series at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville.
Mississippi State's 56-game schedule features 33 home games, 16 road contests, and seven neutral-site matchups. The schedule features a pair of lengthy homestands, as Dudy Noble Field hosts an 8-game homestand to open the campaign (Feb. 18 - 26), followed by nine straight home games from March 21-April 4.
