Dawgs Set to Open Cross Country Season in Memphis, Under the Lights

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Mississippi State's cross country team will open its season under the lights on Saturday night in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Bulldog women will step foot on the line at 9:20 p.m. CT at the City Auto Memphis Twilight XC Classic, hosted by Christian Brothers University.

Two of MSU's six women racing will make their collegiate debuts: Hunter Anderson and Savannah McIntosh. State's remaining representatives for the opening weekend are all returners: Zoe Brito, Gracie Gibson, Grace Ritchie and Mary Beth Woodward. The six women will compete in the 5k race.

Of the group, Woodward is coming off the highest finish from the 2021 SEC Championship where she broke her original time by 82 seconds. Gibson's last 5k time was clocked at 19:36.1 last season, at the very event she's set to race in this weekend. Like Gibson, Ritchie's last recorded 5k time came at the 2021 Memphis Twilight Classic, crossing the line at 21:15.7. This will be Brito's first season competing in cross country.
