State Drops Game Two to No. 16 LSU

The series finale between Mississippi State and LSU is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State (18-14, 4-7 SEC) dropped game two of the series, 4-3, to No. 16 LSU (22-9, 6-5 SEC) on Saturday (April 9) at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville.
The game started eventful with LSU scoring three runs in the top of the first, but the Bulldogs quickly closed the gap with two runs that included a RJ Yeager leadoff solo home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the inning. Although State scored one in the fifth to take the lead, the Tigers scored the last run of the game in the top of the sixth.
For MSU, Brandon Smith (2-2) entered the game with two outs in the top of the first and put together a career-long outing to keep Mississippi State within reach. Despite the strong outing, Smith was charged with the loss after allowing four hits and one run with four strikeouts during his six innings on the mound. Parker Stinnett started for MSU and pitched two-thirds of the first inning and allowed three runs on three hits before leaving the game. Following Smith, Pico Kohn finished out the game allowing no runs on one hit and four strikeouts.
Three Dawgs recorded multi-hit games including Kamren James, Luke Hancock and Yeager, but State struggled with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. James went 2-for-5 which included one home run while Hancock was 2-for-4 and Yeager went 3-for-4 which included one home run and one double.

Kamren James followed with a single to left then advanced to second on a fielding error by LSU's left fielder, Giovanni DiGiacomo. Luke Hancock singled up the middle followed by Kellum Clark who reached on a fielding error by LSU's second baseman, Cade Doughty – James scored.

The Bulldogs tied the game, 3-3, thanks to a James home run down the left field line.

LSU quickly regained the lead after Jordan Thompson homered to right field.
