MSU scored in six of the seven innings with multi-run innings in the first, second, third and sixth innings. The Bulldogs tied the school record for most home runs in a game with six tonight while Luke Hancock hit two home runs in the game for the second time in his career. Kamren James tied his career high with three stolen bases in a game.
For the Diamond Dawgs, Brandon Smith (2-1) started and earned the win after allowing five hits with two runs and seven strikeouts through four innings on the mound. Only two Bulldog pitchers followed Smith – Mikey Tepper and KC Hunt. Tepper collected four strikeouts and one hit during his two innings while Hunt held UT Martin scoreless to end the game.
Five different Dawgs hit home runs including Hancock, Hunter Hines, Kellum Clark, Brad Cumbest and Tanner Leggett. Hancock went 3-for-3 including two home runs, one in the first and one in the sixth, and four RBIs. Three other Dawgs recorded multi-hit games including Clark, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, Cumbest who went 3-for-3 with one home run and one double and Leggett who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one home run.
Bottom First
The Diamond Dawgs took an early lead of 3-0 after Kamren James singled to left field followed by a Luke Hancock home run to right field to bring home two runs. Hunter Hines followed up with a solo home run to right field.

Bottom Second
Mississippi State furthered their lead after a Brad Cumbest single through the left side followed by RJ Yeager getting hit by pitch and a Tanner Leggett single and advanced to second on a throwing error by UT Martin's pitcher, Noah Walters, which advanced Yeager to third and Cumbest scored. James brought home Yeager with a sacrifice fly to right. Drew McGowan singled to the pitcher then stole second followed by a Logan Tanner sacrifice fly which advanced McGowan to third and Leggett home.

Top Third
The Skyhawks scored two runs from two solo home runs. Jack Culumovic homered to right center followed by a Casey Harford home run to center field.

Bottom Third
The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs after Kellum Clark led off with a home run to center field followed by a Cumbest double and a Leggett home run down the left field line. James walked then stole second followed by a Hancock single up the middle which brought home James.

State advanced their lead by one after a Cumbest home run to left center.

Bottom Sixth
The Bulldogs advanced their lead of 12-2 in the bottom of the sixth after Hancock led off with a home run to right field followed by a Matt Corder walk and a Jess Davis single through the left side and a Davis Meche walk which loaded the bases. Corder scored on a wild pitch.

Mississippi State will host LSU this weekend at Dudy Noble Field with the series opener set for 7 p.m. on Friday, April 8, in Starkville. The series opener will air on SEC Network while all three games of the series can be seen on SEC Network+.
