Dawgs Fall in Game Two at Mizzou, Series Even at 1-1

Mississippi State allowed Missouri to score in each of the first six frames, including a 9-run sixth inning, and could never catch up to the Tiger offense. State pitchers struck out 16 batters in the game, but also issued 11 free passes.
Preston Johnson (3-3) started for Mississippi State and was charged with the loss after allowing nine runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings. Johnson did strike out 10 on the day and only walked two in his four innings on the mound. Cam Tullar, Mikey Tepper and Cole Cheatham each combined to pitch the final four frames for the Diamond Dawgs.
Missouri starter Spencer Miles (3-4) earned the win despite allowing five runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work. Austin Marozas pitched the final four innings and allowed three runs – two earned – on four hits.
Offensively, State tallied 11 hits on the day compared to 17 by the Tigers. The Dawgs were led by RJ Yeager (2-for-5, HR) and Lane Forsythe (2-for-4, 3B, 2 runs). State also saw extra-base hits by Kellum Clark (3B) and Matt Corder (2B).
The series between Mississippi State and Mizzou concludes with the rubber match at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, May 1, at Taylor Stadium in Columbia. Sunday's game will air nationally on SEC Network with Mike Morgan (PxP) and Lance Cormier (Analyst) on the call.
