State Falls to Mizzou In Ninth-Inning Walk-Off

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mississippi State (25-20, 9-12 SEC) fell in the series finale at Missouri (24-17, 7-14 SEC) by a score of 7-6 as the Tigers completed a walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday afternoon (May 1) at Taylor Stadium in Columbia.
Mississippi State tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the seventh and the score remained that way until the bottom of the ninth when shortstop Josh Day led off with a walk-off solo home run to right field to give Mizzou the series win.
KC Hunt (2-2) was charged with the loss after coming on in relief in the sixth. Hunt had seven of the first eight batters he had faced before Day's home run in the ninth. Cade Smith started for State and went 4.2 innings while allowing six runs – five earned – on seven hits. Pico Kohn pitched an inning of scoreless relief before Hunt came on in the sixth.
Mizzou used four pitchers on the day with Ian Lohse (2-2) pitching the final 2.2 innings and picking up the win in relief for the Tigers.
RJ Yeager and Hunter Hines led the way offensively for State with each recording home runs in the contest and notching three hits apiece. Kamren James (2-for-4), Luke Hancock (2-for-5) and Lane Forsythe (2-for-4) each had multi-hit games.

Lane Forsythe singled up the middle with one out in the sixth followed by a two-run home run by RJ Yeager, his fourth of the series, to cut State's deficit to one.
