Bulldogs Take Down Kentucky On The Road 4-1

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mississippi State women's tennis picked up momentum going into the Southeastern Conference Tournament with a 4-1 road win at No. 58 Kentucky.
The 67th-ranked Bulldogs claimed the early doubles point and three of the first four singles matches to take the match.
"That was a huge win for us," said head coach Daryl Greenan. "Kentucky is a very feisty team and tough to beat in Lexington. I am proud of the resilience our girls have shown to keep fighting after so many close losses this season."
The MSU tandem of Chloé Cirotte and Alexandra Mikhailuk took down Carlota Molina and Florencia Urrutia 6-3. The doubles point came down to Court 2 where Emmanouela Antonaki and Marta Falceto clinched the win for the Bulldogs with a tiebreaker 7-6 [12-10]. In doubles, Kentucky's 27th-ranked duo of Fiona Arrese and Ellie Eades defeated Tamara Racine and Magda Adaloglou 7-5 in a close match.
Antonaki now stands alone at fourth in all-time career doubles win at 68.
The Wildcats were able to tie the score 1-1 in singles, but the Bulldogs were able to come back with three straight victories.
Cirotte continued her hot streak with a close win over Arrese. Cirotte dominated the first set 6-1 while Aresse took the second set 6-2. Cirotte bounced back in the third set to take the win 6-1 and claimed her sixth victory in her last seven matches.
No. 81 Antonaki defeated her opponent Urrutia in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-3 pushing the score to 3-1. Antonaki now ranks third all-time in career singles wins with 77.
Falceto clinched the win for the fourth time this season. Falceto won big in the first set 6-1, while Morante came back in second set 6-1 to tie things up. Facleto emerged victorious 6-2 in the third set to get the win.
Falceto has now has won seven of her last eight decisions, including six wins over SEC opponents.
"Emma and Marta set the tone with a clutch win to clinch the doubles," Greenan said. "The singles was a little back and forth but we got a solid team effort for the win today."
Wildcat Molina got a win over Adaloglou 6-4, 6-0.
MSU improved to 11-14 overall and 2-11 in conference play and the Wildcats moved to 12-14 overall and 0-13 in conference play.
The Bulldogs now head to Gainesville, Fla. for the SEC Tournament as the No. 13 seed. MSU's first match at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex is scheduled for Wednesday with 12th-seeded Missouri with first serve set for 11 a.m. CT.
