Bulldogs Hit The Road To Close Out Regular Season

STARKVILLE -Â MSU's women's tennis team will hit the road for its last two regular season contests at Vanderbilt at 2 p.m. on Friday and Kentucky at 11 a.m. on Sunday respectively.

Mississippi State (10-13, 1-11 SEC) enters the weekend after a close loss their last time out against Missouri by a score of 3-4.Â

No. 36 Vanderbilt (13-8, 4-7 SEC) upset then No. 29 Tennessee on the road and fell in a close match to then No. 11 Georgia on the road as well. The Commodores are led by junior Anna Ross and sophomore Holly Staff who are ranked 44th and 86th in singles and make up the 39th-ranked doubles duo in the country.

The No. 58 Wildcats (12-12, 0-11 SEC) have dropped their last eight matches, all of which have been against SEC opponents. Kentucky currently has two doubles ranked in the top 60 of the ITA rankings.

In singles play for State, Marta Falceto has been dominating as of late with six wins in her last seven decisions including five wins over SEC opponents.

Similarly, sophomore Chloé Cirotte has emerged victorious in five of her last seven matches. In her last match Cirotte earned a thrilling three-set comeback over Missouri's Emelie Schwarte 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

The duo of Emmanouela Antonaki and Marta Falceto have been heating up as of late having earned five wins in their past six matches. This pairing also leads the team with four SEC wins including three straight SEC wins.Â

The newly formed tandem of Chloé Cirotte and Alexandra Mikhailuk impressed in their two wins this past weekend, winning by a combined score of 12-5.Â

Senior Magda Adaloglou has a chance to shake up the record books this weekend. She needs two wins in singles or doubles to tie former teammate and fellow Greek Anastasia Rentouli (2016-19) for fourth in combined career wins with 150.

Also, Antonaki now stands alone in fourth place in all-time career singles wins with 75, only one behind her teammate Adaloglou for third all-time. On the doubles side, Antonaki needs only one more win to break the tie with Sara Lizariturry for fourth in all-time career doubles wins as they each have 66.
