Women’s Tennis Falls At Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Mississippi State women's tennis fell 5-1 on the road at No. 36 Vanderbilt on Friday afternoon.
No. 81 Emmanouela Antonaki claimed a singles victory for the 67th-ranked Bulldogs. Antonaki took down the Commodores No. 44 Anna Ross in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. It was the sixth ranked singles win that Antonaki has had during the 2021-22 campaign.
Antonaki is now tied with teammate Magda Adaloglou in all-time career singles victories at 76.
Adaloglou had a three-set battle with 69th-ranked Anessa Lee. Lee won the first set 6-3 before Adaloglou evened things up with a dominant 6-1 showing in the second. Lee, however, was able to outlast the MSU senior in a third set tiebreaker 7-6(3) to take the point.
Vandy's Dasha Kourkina got a win over Alexandra Mikhailuk in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The Bulldogs' Marta Falceto won her first set against Amy Stevens 6-2, but Stevens fought back with 6-4, 6-4 victories in the final two sets.
Tamara Racine fell to Vanderbilt's 86th-ranked Holly Staff in a close first set 7-6(4) and 6-3 in the second set. Commodore Marcella Cruz won the first set 6-4, while Chloé Cirotte came back in the second set with a 7-6(2) victory, but the match went unfinished at 1-1 in the third set.
In doubles, Antonaki and Falceto took down Lee and Cruz 6-4. Antonaki now stands alone at fourth all-time career doubles wins at 67.
Vanderbilt took the doubles point when the No. 39 tandem of Ross and Staff defeated Racine and Adaloglou 7-6(5) and Kourkina and Maryann Rompf took down the duo of Cirotte and Mikhailuk 6-4.
Vanderbilt moves to 14-8 overall and 5-7 in Southeastern Conference play. The Bulldogs dropped to 10-14 overall and 1-11 in league play.
State heads to Lexington to take on No. 58 Kentucky at 11 a.m. CT and close out the regular season.
