Bulldogs Set to Begin Postseason Play at SEC Championship

HOOVER, Ala.– The Mississippi State women's golf team kicks off postseason play this week when they travel to Hoover, Ala. to compete in the 2022 SEC Championship.
The five-day event includes both stroke and match play at the Greystone Golf & Country Club, a par-72, 6,331-yard course. Teams will begin the event with traditional stroke play from Wednesday until Friday. The top eight teams will then advance to match play on Saturday and Sunday. The final round will be televised via the SEC Network.
The No. 31 ranked Bulldogs will join a ranked field of fellow ranked opponents including No. 3 South Carolina, No. 8 Alabama, No. 11 Florida, No. 12 Arkansas, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 16 LSU, No. 21 Auburn, No. 22 Ole Miss, No. 26 Kentucky, No. 27 Georgia, No. 37 Vanderbilt. Missouri and Tennessee round out the 14-team field.
In the 2021 edition of the SEC Championship, Mississippi State advanced to the final round and secured the best performance in program history when they finished second. Four of the five starters from the 2021 lineup return to Hoover on Wednesday.
In 2021, the trio of Abbey Daniel, Hannah Levi and Blair Stockett became the first three Bulldogs to shoot 5-under par in the same round when they did it in the first round.
Leading State, Hannah Levi takes the number one spot for the event. Levi has competed in every team event this season for the Bulldogs. In the 2021 SEC Championship, Levi sunk a birdie against LSU to send the Bulldogs to the finals.
Abbey Daniel will take the second spot for MSU. In the 2021 edition of the SEC Championship, Daniel matched her career-best round in the first round with a score of 67 (5-under).
Blair Stockett will take the third slot. A season ago, Stockett shot 5-under in the first round of the SEC Championship, the lowest first-round of her career.
Ashley Gilliam will shoot fourth. throughout the 2021 SEC Championship, Gilliam sunk the fourth most pars with 38 pars during the event.
Rounding out the lineup for State is Julia Lopez Ramirez who is making her SEC Championship debut. Entering the event, Lopez Ramirez ranks first among freshmen in stroke average and second overall in the conference with 70.59. In her freshman season, Lopez Ramirez has secured three tournament wins and tallied four SEC weekly honors
Mississippi State will tee off at Hole 10 at approx. 8:20 AM paired up with No. 27 Georgia.
