MSU Falls, 7-1, To Southern Miss In Pearl

The Dawgs open a three-game series at Tulane on Friday, March 4
PEARL, Miss. – No. 9 Mississippi State (5-4) fell to Southern Miss (6-2) by a score of 7-1 on Wednesday (March 2) night in front of 6,387 in attendance at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi.
Both Mississippi State and Southern Miss each tallied seven hits apiece in the contest, but the Golden Eagles took advantage of timely hitting to come away with the victory over the Dawgs.
MSU righthander Jackson Fristoe (1-1) was charged with the loss in his second start of the season after allowing four runs – all earned – on four hits and walking two in 3.0 innings. State combined to use six pitchers on the night, including Pico Kohn (1.2 IP), Brandon Smith (1.1), Mikey Tepper (1.0), Cole Cheatham (0.2) and Brooks Auger (0.1).
Southern Miss lefthander Tanner Hall earned the win after striking out a career-high 13 batters and holding the Dawgs scoreless in 7.0 innings. Landon Harper came on in relief in the eighth and allowed a run on one hit and a walk before Matt Adams close out the win for USM in the ninth.
Logan Tanner drove in State's only run of the game in a 2-for-4 effort at the dish, while designated hitter Hunter Hines was 2-for-3 on the night. MSU's Luke Hancock, Kamren James and Von Seibert also tallied hits in the contest.
