No. 18 Bulldogs Host Florida State On Saturday

STARKVILLE – The 18th-ranked Mississippi State men's tennis team returns to their home courts to battle it out with Florida State.

The match will mark the 18th clash between the two teams and will go down on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

MSU is 10-7 all-time against Florida State. The Bulldogs have won seven of the last nine matches and have a perfect 2-0 record at home against the Seminoles.Â

Florida State won the last meeting 5-2 in Tallahassee in 2020.

Mississippi State heads into the weekend with a 7-2 overall record after dropping a highly-contested match last Friday in Fort Worth, Texas against No. 4 TCU.

Nemanja Malesevic heads into the match against the Seminoles after achieving his highest-ranked singles win in his still young career. He downed TCU's Juan Carlos Aguilar in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 battle.

Malesevic sits on an impressive 8-1 record in this year's dual match season and is currently on a five-match winning streak.

Florian Broska, who currently holds a career-best singles ranking of No. 20 in the country, enters Saturday's match with a dual match record of 8-1 at the top spot of the singles lineup.

Broska has won 12 of his last 13 singles matches dating back to the fall. He is currently tied for eighth all-time in school history with 92 singles wins with Mark Thompson (1977-80).

The Bulldogs' doubles lineup also features two ranked pairs. Malesevic and Davide Tortora entered the ITA doubles rankings for the first time, coming in as No. 30. This marks a career-best doubles ranking for both players.

The duo of Broska and Gregor Ramskogler reentered last week's doubles rankings. The pair is currently 37th nationally and holds a 5-3 record at the No. 1 position.

Florida State enters Saturday's contest with a 7-2 overall record with six of those wins coming at home. During the Seminoles last outing, they downed UCF in a very close match 4-3.

FSU does not feature any ranked players but four of its six starting singles players have winning records in dual match play this season.

The match against the Bulldogs will be the first road contest of the season for FSU. Seminole assistant coach Chris Doerr played at Mississippi State from 2006-2010.
