No. 18 Bulldogs Fall To Florida State

STARKVILLE – The transition into the elements did not go the way Mississippi State men's tennis had planned.

The 18^th-ranked Bulldogs played outdoors for the first time this spring but fell 5-2 to Florida State on Saturday afternoon at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

Alberto Colas and Nemanja Malesevic claimed the two singles wins for MSU (7-3). Colas made quick work of Alex Bulte 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 6 position while Malesevic closed out the match with a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0(4) victory against Sebastian Arcila.

It was the sixth consecutive win for Malesevic in singles, two of which have come against ranked opponents. The sophomore from Bosnia and Herzegovina is now 9-1 in dual-match play.

The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point as 37^th-ranked Florian Broska and Gregor Ramskogler fell 6-2 to Arcila and Loris Pourroy and Colas and Carles Hernandez lost 6-4 to Joshua Dous Karpenschif and Maks Silagy.

In singles, No. 20 Broska suffered a 6-3, 6-2 upset at the hands of the Seminoles' Loris Pourroy. Bautista Vilicich also lost by that same score to Dous Karpenschif.

Ramskogler lost 6-3, 6-0 to Youcef Rihane while Petrovic prevailed over Hernandez 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the match for Florida State. With the win, the Seminoles improved to 8-2 on the year.

Mississippi State will try to rebound after back-to-back losses when it hosts both Jacksonville State and Jackson State in a doubleheader on Feb. 27 beginning at noon.
