Gunter Earns SEC Weekly Honor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala – Mississippi State's Lilly Gunter has been selected as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week following the Bulldogs' 3-0 sweep at Alabama this past weekend in Tuscaloosa.

This marks the fourth SEC Defensive Player of the Week of Gunter's career and the second time this season.

"We are excited for Lilly to earn her fourth defensive player of the week award," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "She has proven to be one of the most reliable defenders in the league. I am extremely proud of how well she played against Alabama – she was solid all around, so it's great that she is getting some recognition for it!"

Gunter was lights out on Mississippi State's back row as the junior libero amassed 5.00 digs per set. With Gunter's help, the Bulldogs lead the SEC in digs with 1,406 and are averaging 15.80 digs per set. Gunter captured 15 digs, four assists and two aces for the weekend.

She also sits at the No. 3 spot for digs among SEC liberos. For the season, she has issued 4.11 digs per set, which ranks first on the MSU squad.

The Bulldogs return home to take on No. 19 Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 11. First serve is set for 8 p.m. CT and will be aired nationally on SEC Network.
