Volleyball Defeats Texas A&M In A Four-Set Battle
October 08, 2022 | Volleyball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Mississippi State volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Texas A&M inside the Reed Arena Saturday night, marking their sixth consecutive win over The Aggies.
The Aggies took the first set 29-27 before State (11-5, 4-2 SEC) stormed back to take the next three sets [30-28, 25-18, 25-23].
"The SEC is the toughest conference in the country for a reason and playing on the road is even tougher," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "I'm really proud of the gutsy win from the Dawgs. That first set went to extra points just like last night. It felt a little deja-vu-like. I was proud of how we responded in set two, again pushing to extra points. They were just tough and resilient. It was a total team effort. We played through a lot of adversity, and there was a lot of tough moments. The girls played together and played for one another. There's a lot of people with double-digit kills. Overall, just so proud to come home 2-0. Hail State!"
State's offense was led by a 15-kill performance from Lauren Myrick, who also added six digs on the night and an ace. Shania Cromartie pitched in a 12-kill effort in the four-setter, coupled with 13 digs. This marks Cromartie's sixth double-double on the season.
Gabby Waden notched 10 kills of her own on the night, while adding two blocks and two digs.
Deja Robinson issued nine kills on a .471 attacking percentage, while adding three blocks. Sania Petties added four kills, six digs and two aces.
Gabby Coulter posted her team-leading tenth double-double of the year, recording 35 assists and 10 digs. Coulter also added five kills to match her season-high record. Emily Oerther compiled nine assists and one dig on the night.
Lilly Gunter sprawled out for 12 digs, while adding an ace.
As a team Mississippi State recorded 60 digs, 55 kills and 52 assists.
Mississippi State heads home to take on No. 15 Florida for a pair of matches on Friday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. CT on SEC Network and Saturday Oct. 15 at 5 p.m.
