
Three Bulldogs Set To Open Play In NCAA Individual Championships Sunday/Monday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Three Mississippi State men's tennis players will open action in the 2021 NCAA individual Championships this week at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, as Giovanni Oradini and Florian Broska begin action in the NCAA Singles Championship Sunday, and then Broska and partner Gregor Ramskogler start play in the NCAA Doubles Championship Monday.
Oradini, ranked 20th nationally, will meet Wichita State's 39th-ranked Murkel Dellien at 10 a.m. ET Sunday in the opening round of the 64-player singles field. The two have never met.
The three-time All-American Oradini will be making his third career appearance in the NCAA Singles draw. The Rovereto, Italy, product reached the Round of 16 in the tournament as a sophomore in 2018 and bettered that by a round in 2019, advancing to the quarterfinals. With an excellent year at the No. 1 position, Oradini is 11-8 there in dual match play, and 11-11 overall with six ranked victories, five in the Top 50. WSU's Dellien will enter Sunday's match on a 13-match win streak. The 2021 AAC Player of the Year, he is 14-2 overall this year with six ranked wins to his credit.
Broska, ranked 48th nationally, will take on Wake Forest's 13th-ranked Henri Squire, a 9-16 seed, at 3 p.m. ET Sunday afternoon in his singles opener. The two have never met.
The fourth-year Bulldog Broska will be making his first career showing in the NCAA singles tournament. Earning a career-high ranking of No. 41 on April 14, the Eitelborn, Germany, native is 19-15 overall in 2020-21, 16-9 dual matches at the No. 1 and 2 positions. He has five ranked triumphs to his credit this year and his efforts earned him All-SEC Second Team laurels. The ACC Freshman of the Year, Squire will bring a 17-6 singles record into Monday's match. He has eight wins over nationally ranked foes this year while playing the No. 1 singles spot for the Demon Deacons this spring.
Broska and Ramskogler, ranked 15th nationally in doubles, will face TCU's second-ranked and fourth-seeded tandem of Luc Fomba and Alastair Gray on Monday in the opening round of the 32-team NCAA Doubles field (time TBA). The two duos have never met.
The State pair's current national ranking of No. 15 is a career-best. The duo is 12-7 overall this year with six ranked victories to their credit, four in the Top 25. They have won six of their last nine contests, all at the No. 1 position in State's lineup. The Horned Frogs' Fomba and Gray are 15-7 overall this season, 12-7 in dual matches at No. 1. They have tallied eight ranked wins this year together and have claimed seven of their last nine decisions.
