In the ITA national singles rankings, State is led by senior and two-time All-American Giovanni Oradini at No. 36 in the country. Following right behind is veteran Florian Broska at No. 87 nationally in singles. In doubles, the Bulldogs have two duos currently ranked with Broska and freshman Nicolas Ocana earning the nation's No. 28 spot. Rounding out the rankings is the duo of Alberto Colas and Gregor Ramskogler, coming in at 47th nationally.
Know The Foe: LSU
No. 38 LSU will enter Friday's match with a 9-5 mark (1-4 SEC) after dropping a conference battle 6-1 at No. 24 Ole Miss on Friday. All of the Tigers' leagues setback this season have come to current Top 25 teams.
The Tigers are led by redshirt freshman Ronald Hohmann, who is currently ranked 99th nationally in singles and maintains the No. 1 position for LSU. In doubles, Hohmann teams up with senior Rafael Wagner to form the country's 60th-ranked duo.
LSU currently holds a 35-19 all-time record against MSU in the series (since 1969). The Bulldogs have claimed the last four meetings with the Tigers (and 10 of the last 12), with the most recent being a 4-0 sweep in Baton Rouge in 2019. The teams have not met in Starkville since the 2017 campaign.
Need To Know…
In their most recent outing, the Bulldogs dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 11 Texas A&M Friday in Starkville. After Texas A&M took the doubles point, the Aggies claimed the first set on five of the six courts to keep their momentum. But the Bulldogs would not go down quietly, forcing third sets in three of those matches to still give themselves a chance for the upset. A&M ultimately claimed five singles wins, with MSU's lone victory coming on court 5 where the true freshman Carles Hernandez fended off A&M's Pierce Rollins in 7-5, 6-4 fashion.
Next Up For MSU…
Following Sunday's affair with LSU, the Bulldogs will continue their current five-match homestand. On Friday, March 12, State will welcome No. 16 South Carolina to Starkville at 3 p.m. CT before entertaining No. 10 Florida on Sunday, March 14, at Noon.
