Bulldogs Enter Final Day Of Gamecock Intercollegiate In Sixth
March 02, 2021 | Women's Golf
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Mississippi State women's golf team sits tied for sixth place in the Gamecock Intercollegiate after completing 27 holes at the Columbia Country Club on Tuesday.
Â
Due to inclement weather coming in on Wednesday morning, half of the final round was played along with the second round. The Bulldogs will wrap up the event as they tee off at 10:30 a.m. CT with only nine holes remaining.
Â
"All in all, I'm proud of how we competed today," said head coach Charlie Ewing. "It wasn't easy out there, and we certainly took our blows at times throughout the day. The most important thing you can do is respond well to the circumstances, and we did a great job of that today. Blair Stockett has one of the most rock solid and steady minds I've ever seen in this game and is obviously doing a fantastic job leading the way for us. As a whole, all five ladies displayed toughness and provided great sparks at different points and in different ways. For that, we are excited about getting back after it in the morning."
Â
Maintaining the lead, Stockett is currently tied for seventh place after a 2-over par second round and shooting even through nine holes of the third round. The senior rolled in four birdies on the day, bringing her total for the event to nine.
Â
Shooting 3-over par (75) in the second round, sophomore Abbey Daniel is tied for 17th place, and she's 1-under in the final round. Graduate Clara Moyano also shot 3-over par in the second round to sit tied for 34th, as she's 2-over through nine holes.
Â
Tied for 57th, sophomore Ashley Gilliam shot 7-over (79) in the second round but responded by going even through nine holes in the third. Redshirt sophomore Hannah Levi is tied for 76th with nine to go.
Â
"Tomorrow provides a unique opportunity to get out and play the best nine holes we can to complete the event," said Ewing. "The level of energy we bring in the morning will dictate the day, so that's what we aim to be in control of."
The Bulldogs are set to complete the final nine holes of event on Wednesday. State will tee off at 10:30 a.m. CT. in a shotgun start, accompanied by Auburn and UNC. Fans can follow along with the live scoring at GolfStat.com.
