Weather Adjusts Old Barnwell Derby Match Play To Sunday Start
March 14, 2026 | Women's Golf
STARKVILLE – No. 16 Mississippi State women's golf will begin the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play in Aiken, South Carolina on Sunday, a day earlier than previously scheduled due to projected inclement weather on Monday. The Bulldogs will face off with the 17th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels in the opening round, which will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. Â
Â
This will be the first time the Bulldogs will compete in a match play tournament this season. Instead of counting the score against par, players will face off against another golfer from an opposing team and will try to complete each hole in fewer shots than their opponent to earn a hole victory. The most victories after 18 holes will earn a point for their team, and the team with the most points will earn the match win.
Â
Avery Weed and Izzy Pellot have competed in 13 rounds of match play during their individual careers, the most of any Bulldog on roster. Weed holds a 7-3-2 record, while Pellot is 5-7-1 in match play rounds. Samantha Whateley is the only other Bulldog to have competed in a match play tournament at the collegiate level, holding a 2-6 record in eight rounds. All three will shoot in the Bulldog lineup this week.
Â
Ines Belchior and Moa Stridh will both compete in their first collegiate match play tournaments beginning on Sunday. Lynn van der Sluijs will also compete in her first match play tournament as an individual.
Â
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play in the second round of the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play at approximately 1:30 p.m., either against Alabama or fifth-ranked Auburn. The final round of the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play is scheduled for Tuesday morning. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
