State Women’s Tennis Set To Welcome No. 3 Georgia Sunday

STARKVILLE – After claiming an exciting 4-3 upset victory over No. 20 Tennessee on Friday, the Mississippi State women's tennis team (9-2, 1-2 SEC) looks to continue its success against Top 25 opponents Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs host No. 3 Georgia (6-1, 2-0) at 1 p.m. CT at MSU's A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. In the case of inclement weather, the match may be moved indoors to the Rula Tennis Pavilion.
2021 MSU Tennis COVID/Attendance Protocols
In conjunction with current COVID protocols that have been established, a limited number of spectators will be allowed to attend outdoor matches at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre, and no fans or player guests will be allowed at indoor matches at the Rula Tennis Pavilion.
Outdoor - Per current MS Governor Executive order, a limited number of spectators will be allowed to attend outdoor matches at 25% of available seating capacity in the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. In accordance with all current policies, when attendance is allowed at the Pitts Tennis Centre, properly spaced and marked grandstand seating will be available in groups of two and three seat pods in the main grandstand on a first come-first serve basis. Within this seating area, an allotment of seats for each match will be available for home and visiting team player guests. Any remaining seats will be made available at the gate to the public. In accordance with current guidelines, face coverings over the nose and mouth shall be required as a condition of guest entry and exit, as well as movement throughout the facility, and any time guests are unable to maintain the recommended physical distance from others who are not in their same household or when actively eating or drinking.
Indoor - If a match is played or moved indoors into the Rula Tennis Pavilion due to weather, NO spectators will be permitted, per current SEC COVID protocols and MS Governor Executive order.

Bulldog Notes
The Bulldogs have dominated in doubles action this spring, having claimed the opening point in nine of their 11 matches this season. The team owns an impressive 22-6 record in doubles play this dual match season, highlighted by a near-perfect 11-1 ledger from the duo of Emma Antonaki and Alexandra Mikhailuk. MSU's pair of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine is ranked 41st nationally and claimed a ranked victory over No. 54 Mackenzie Clark and Mary Caroline Meredith of Tulane on Feb. 14 in their first time competing together this season.
In singles, State is 52-11 in dual matches in 2021, and is paced by the 69th-ranked Antonaki who owns a 10-1 mark. The Athens, Greece, product has claimed 17 of her last 18 singles matches, dating back to last season, and owns a 23-2 record overall in 2021 (12-1 singles, 11-1 doubles). Adaloglou has won 17 of her last 19 singles affairs and owns a team-leading seven-match win streak. True freshman Chloe Cirotte is 8-1 in her first season the Maroon and White. Racine (5-3), Mikhailluk (8-3), Lilian Poling (5-2) and Marta Falceto (5-0) have also been impressive thus far in dual match competition for State.
Know The Foe: Georgia
No. 3 Georgia enters Sunday's match with a 6-1 record, 2-0 in the SEC. The Bulldogs have blanked their first two SEC opponents (Tennessee at home and at Ole Miss) to open their conference slate.
Five of Georgia's nine players appear in the latest ITA singles rankings, including three among the top 50 – No. 16 Katarina Jokic, No. 31 Lea Ma and No. 50 Marta Gonzalez. Jokic owns a 6-0 record in dual match play at the No. 1 position, while Ma has a 4-2 ledger on court two. No. 60 Meg Kowalski and No. 73 Morgan Coppoc join the other three in the rankings. In doubles, Georgia boasts two ranked tandems in No. 10 Anna Hertel and Jokic and No. 37 Elena Christofi and Coppoc.

Mississippi State upset No. 20 Tennessee 4-3 in Starkville in a thrilling comeback effort for its first SEC win. Trailing 2-0 in the match, Antonaki, Cirotte, Adaloglou and Falceto delivered three-set triumphs to lead the Bulldogs to the win. In her first conference match of 2021, Falceto delivered the heroics by clinching the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(5) victory over Tennessee's Carly Creath on court 6. Adaloglou defeated 118th-ranked Carly Briggs to enter MSU's top 10 in program history for career singles victories (63). She is now amongst State's all-time career Top 10 in singles (63), doubles (54) and total (117) wins.
Next Up For MSU
Following Sunday's match against Georgia, MSU will travel to Bryan-College Station, Texas, to face No. 22 Texas A&M this Friday, March 5, to kick off a four-match conference road swing.
