Tulane Offers Final Non-Conference Test For MSU Women’s Tennis On Valentine’s Day
February 13, 2021 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Having posted four shutouts in a row, the Mississippi State women's tennis team (7-0) looks to continue its success on Sunday, Feb. 14, as they welcome Tulane (5-2) to the Rula Tennis Pavilion at 11 a.m. CT.
The match against Tulane will serve as the final non-conference test for the Bulldogs before SEC competition begins next weekend.
"We are looking forward to our match with Tulane this Sunday," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "It has actually been a bit of a grueling four-week stretch for the team. It will be nice to be able to focus on playing just one match at home before we begin SEC play."

Bulldog Notes
State received votes in the latest ITA Top 25 national poll - released Wednesday - and owns a perfect 7-0 record in dual match play. The 7-0 record marks the Bulldogs' best season start since 2009 when the team opened 8-0.
MSU enters the weekend having dropped only two points in its seven matches thus far this season. State has notched five 7-0 shutouts (Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana, Samford, UAB and North Alabama) as well as two 6-1 wins (at Furman and at home versus Memphis).
The Bulldogs have dominated in doubles action this spring, having claimed all seven doubles points. The squad owns an 18-2 record in doubles dual match play overall, highlighted by a perfect 7-0 record from the tandem of Emma Antonaki and Alexandra Mikhailuk, who have claimed their last 10 straight. MSU's duo of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine is ranked 41stnationally.
In singles, State is 40-2 in dual matches in 2021. Tamara Racine is 4-1 at the top spot in State's lineup and has claimed her last three decisions. The 69th-ranked Antonaki owns a team-leading 14-match singles win streak, dating back to last season. Adaloglou has won 14 of her last 16 singles affairs, while Mikhailuk has claimed 11 of her last 12 singles outings. The senior transfer Poling is 11-2 overall, and has won six straight. Rookie Chloé Cirotte earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors this week, having notched a perfect 6-0 mark thus far in dual match singles competition. Marta Falceto is 10-2 overall, 4-0 in dual match action.
Antonaki and Mikhailuk are both undefeated in all matches they have played in 2021, each 18-0 (9-0 doubles, 9-0 singles).
On Sunday, the Maroon and White will look to extend their 45-game win streak in non-conference home matches (dates back to the 2013 campaign), as well as improve to 8-0 to match the best start by any team in program history.
Know the Foe
Tulane enters the contest with a 5-2 record, with their two setbacks coming against SEC foes – at LSU and Alabama, the match against the Crimson Tide held Friday. All five of their wins came at home against Alcorn State (twice), Southern, New Orleans and Louisiana. The Green Wave leads the series with Mississippi State 8-6, but the Bulldogs have claimed the last three meetings between the teams. The last two outings were decided in 4-3 decisions, with MSU taking both in 2010 (Starkville) and 2012 (New Orleans).
Last Time Out
Mississippi State posted a 2-0 record last weekend with home wins over UAB and North Alabama to remain perfect in dual match play in 2021. State defeated UAB 7-0 on Saturday, before downing North Alabama by the same score on Sunday.
