Men's Tennis Travels To Atlanta To Close Fall
November 04, 2021 | Men's Tennis
ATLANTA, Ga., - Mississippi State men's tennis will close out its fall schedule this weekend in the Georgia Tech Invite.
The Bulldogs have participated in six other events this fall and this weekend will be first time the entire roster has competed together since the MSU Bulldog Invitational in early October.
"We've been doing a lot of stuff off the court to get everybody on the same page and build good chemistry on the team," said sophomore Nemanja Malesevic, who is ranked 36th in singles. "I think having good team chemistry is going to bring us a lot of success in the spring. I think this tournament will help us build team chemistry even more because we're going to be together for a few days. I'll enjoy it and I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time with the guys."
The Georgia Tech Invite will be a three-day event starting Friday beginning at 10 a.m. CT each day and consisting of one doubles and one singles round daily. Ole Miss and Georgia State will also participate in the tournament along with the Bulldogs and host Yellow Jackets.
On Friday, State's sixth-ranked doubles tandem of Florian Broska and Gregor Ramskogler will challenge Georgia Tech's Keshav Chopra and Pablo Schelcher. Malesevic and Davide Tortora will take on Chen Dong and Angel Guerrero Melgar of the Yellow Jackets while Alberto Colas and Carles Hernandez meet Ole Miss' Jakob Cadonau and Lukas Engelhardt.
In singles competition, Hernandez duels against Dong, No. 92 Colas challenges Chopra, Malesevic meets Schelcher and No. 54 Tortora takes on Engelhardt. No. 27 Broska will battle the Rebels' John Hallquist Lithen, Ramskogler squares off against Jan Soren Hail of Ole Miss and Seth Richey takes on Georgia State's Edward Tymes.
The last event MSU competed in with most of its roster was the ITA Southern Regionals in Auburn, Alabama on Oct. 15-17. After this weekend, the Bulldogs will not be back in action until 2022 when they open their spring slate against Tennessee Tech at home on Jan. 14.
"I think it's going to be a great opportunity for us to compete and incorporate the things that we've been working on after regionals," Tortora said. "It's a great opportunity to prove on the court how good we are as a team and that we're a hard-working team."
