State Picks Up A Pair Of Wins In GT Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. – Mississippi State men's tennis picked up a pair of wins on Day 1 of the GT Invite on Friday.
Nemanja Malesevic and Davide Tortora teamed up to be the Georgia Tech doubles team of Chen Dong and Ángel Guerrero Melgar 6-3 to start the day strong.
No. 27 Florian Broska also represented the Bulldogs well in singles play by sweeping Ole Miss' John Hallquist Lithén in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(7).
The rest of Friday's results, however, did not go in State's favor. The Bulldogs' sixth-ranked doubles tandem of Broska and Gregor Ramskogler were upset by the Yellow Jackets' Keshav Chopra and Pablo Schelcher 7-5 while Alberto Colas and Carles Hernandez fell to the Rebels' duo of Jakob Cadonau and Lukas Engelhardt 6-3.
In singles play, both Hernandez and Malesevic battled for three sets against the homestanding Yellow Jackets but came up short. Hernandez dropped his decision to Dong 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 while No. 36 Malesevic – competing in his first match since Oct. 6 - lost 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 to Schelcher.
No. 54 Tortora also took his singles match to three sets against Engelhardt only to come up just short 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4. No. 92 Colas fell to Chopra 7-6(8), 6-1, Ramskogler lost to Ole Miss' Jan Soren Hain 6-3, 6-4 and Seth Richey was defeated by Edward Tymes of Georgia State 6-3, 7-5.
MSU is back in action for Day 2 at the Byers Tennis Complex on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. CT.
In doubles play, Broska and Ramskogler will meet Lithén and Walker Stearns of Ole Miss. Malesevic and Tortora take on the Georgia State tandem of Harvey Maughn and Diego Padilha while Colas and Hernandez battles Dong and Guerrero Melgar.
When singles start, it will be Tortora tangling with Guerrero Melgar and Hernandez taking on Chopra. Broska squares off against Dong, Malesevic meets Lithén, Colas collides with Cadonau, Ramskogler faces Padilha and Richey competes against Stearns.
