Volleyball Inks Agee, Williams to 2022 Signing Class

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State volleyball added a talented duo to the 2022 class this week with Sophie Agee and Sanaa Williams signing on to play for the Maroon and White.

Agee, an outside hitter from Houston, prepped at St. Agnes Academy and was also a member of the Houston Juniors Volleyball Club. As for Williams, she served as a middle blocker at Hume-Fogg Academic High School in Hermitage, Tennessee, while also playing for Alliance Volleyball Club.

"Sophie is a savvy volleyball player who has a spunky personality and is an all-around great student of the game. Sophie is an outside hitter who has great size and length, she can handle the ball well and she is smart in how she attacks and scores points. We are always looking for 6-rotation outsides who can handle the ball and score in an efficient way and Sophie does just that. I think Sophie gives us great depth with our outsides and it will be fun to see her come in and make an impact in our gym."

"We are so excited to add someone like Sanaa to our program. She is an outstanding young woman who is kind, honest and she will fit in with our team and culture immediately. She is coming off a state title and state championship MVP recognition and I am so proud of her leading her team to a state championship. Sanaa is a physical middle blocker, but she spent her high school season playing outside, so it's great to bring someone in with that kind of versatility. Sanaa has the physicality and size that we need to continue to be more competitive in the toughest volleyball conference in the country. Sanaa can attack off one foot behind the setter or in front off of two feet, so it's always great to find middles who are capable of doing both. I am excited to see Sanaa come in and develop in our system and see what she will be able to do here in her career in the maroon and white."

- Named a 2021 Girls' High School All-American by the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association). Â
- Earned First Team All-State and All-District honors for Class 6A as a junior at St. Agnes.
- Helped lead Houston Junior Volleyball Club to the 2021 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship title.
- Was also named the MVP of the 17 USA Division at the 2021 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship.
- Part of a St. Agnes team that captured the 2019 TAPPS Class 6A state championship.
- Guided St. Agnes to back-to-back state title games as a sophomore and junior.

- Member of the Alliance Volleyball Club.
- Helped guide Hume-Fogg to the program's first state championship in 23 years as a senior.
- Named MVP of the Tennessee Class AA State Championship game after notching 17 kills, 13 digs and three blocks in the finals.
- Key member of a Blue Knights squad that posted a 35-7 overall record in 2021.
- Earned a spot on the 2021 Ultra Ankle JVA Watch List prior to her senior season.
