Antonaki Earns Ranked Win At ITA All-American

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C., - Mississippi State's women's tennis picked up a standout singles win by No. 22 Emmanouela Antonaki despite inclement weather blanketing South Carolina.
Antonaki emerged victorious over No. 28 Chloe Beck of Duke in three sets 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(3) on Wednesday morning.
After going down 2-4 in the third set, Antonaki won three straight set points to go up 5-4 before Beck took the next two to go up 5-6. Then, with the score 40-40, Antonaki secured the deuce to tie the set at 6-6 and force the tiebreaker.
Subsequently, Antonaki got out to a 3-1 lead in the tiebreaker, but Beck quickly tied it up at 3-3. Antonaki proceeded to go on a hot streak and won the next four points to secure her victory.
"Emma hung tough today to come out with the win," said MSU head coach Daryl Greenan. "She started well and was able to overcome a solid push from her opponent. After losing the second set and a 2-4 deficit in the third, she saved a match point to force the deciding tiebreaker."
It was Antonaki's second ranked win of the fall with the first coming against No. 50 Megan Davies of South Carolina on Sept. 18 at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.
Antonaki moves on to meet No. 7 Irina Cantos Siemers of Ohio State on Thursday at 8 a.m.
The 41st-ranked duo of Antonaki and Tamara Racine were set to play the 28th-ranked team of Mary Lewis and Maja Pietrowicz of Michigan State Wednesday afternoon. However, due to inclement weather the match was postponed until Thursday.
Both Magda Adaloglou and Chloé Cirotte were also scheduled to compete in their singles and doubles matches at the ITF Hilton Head 15K in South Carolina on Wednesday but were similarly postponed until Thursday.
