Antonaki, Racine Earn Ranked Doubles Win

Mississippi State's women's tennis team picked up a ranked doubles win on Thursday courtesy of their very own ranked pair of No. 41 Emmanouela Antonaki and Tamara Racine.

The No. 41 ranked duo of Antonaki and Racine earned a victory against Wake Forest's 38^th-ranked tandem of Anna Campana and Carolyn Campana 9-8(5).

It was the first ranked win of the season for MSU's duo.

"Emma and Tamara showed some resilience in their win over a very solid Wake Forest team," said head coach Daryl Greenan. "With their backs against the wall, they were able to find their rhythm and came up with some excellent shot making. These are the best doubles teams in college tennis at this event and they are proving they belong at this level."

The pairing of Antonaki and Racine played in a close game earlier in the day, against No. 28 Mary Lewis and Maja Pietrowicz of Michigan State, but fell 8-6.

Antonaki – ranked No. 22 in singles play - was defeated by seventh-ranked Irina Cantos Siemers of Ohio State 6-4, 6-3.

Antonaki and Racine seek to earn their second ranked win on Friday afternoon when they take on No. 7 Bronte Murgett and Marta Oliveira of Missouri at 2:30 CT.

Meanwhile, two hours southeast, Magda Adaloglou and Chloé Cirotte each engaged in their own singles matches in the ITF 15K in Hilton Head, S.C.

Adaloglou fought valiantly but lost a three-set nail-biter against Hilton Head's own Emily Ruckno, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Former Wimbledon, French Open, and U.S. Open qualifier Françoise Abanda got the better of Cirotte 6-2, 6-0 on Thursday.

Adaloglou and Cirotte will now join back up with the rest of Mississippi State's women's tennis team to gear up for the ITA Southern Regional from Oct. 14-19 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
