October 18, 2021 | Women's Tennis
TUSCALOOSA, Ala., - Mississippi State women's tennis wrapped up play at the ITA Southern Regional Championships on Monday.
Â
The No. 41 ranked duo of Emmanouela Antonaki and Tamara Racine lost a nail-biter of a match in the tiebreaker after splitting sets against Alabama's own pairing of Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser 3-6, 7-5 (10-8). Antonaki and Racine fell behind 7-1 before winning seven of the next nine points.
Â
Antonaki, who is ranked as the 22nd player in the country in singles, lost to Ole Miss' No. 69 Tiphanie Fiquet in a tightly fought three-set match 7-5, 2-6, 6-0.
Â
"I think our performance at regionals was solid overall," said head coach Daryl Greenan. "I felt like we were competitive in every match we played. Emma and Tamara made impressive runs in singles and doubles and look poised to lead a motivated team."
Â
Despite not making it to the finals, there is a chance for Antonaki in singles as well as in doubles with Racine may earn an at-large bid to nationals in San Diego, Calif., next month.
Â
MSU now looks ahead to the Roberta Alison Invitational which will also be held in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Oct. 29-30.
