Falceto, Mikhailuk Earn Doubles Win On Day 1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., - Mississippi State's women's tennis endured poor weather conditions and a few changes in schedule on Day 1 of the Roberta Alison Fall Classic on Friday.

MSU's Marta Falceto and Alexandra Mikhailuk were scheduled to play two doubles matches as well as a singles match respectively. However due to inclement weather in the area, Falceto and Mikhailuk played in three doubles matches instead.

The pairing from MSU fought hard in a very close first match, but fell to Ariel Johnson and Ava Markham of Wisconsin 7-5.

Falceto and Mikhailuk were able to bounce back in their second matchup of the day and never trailed against Troy's Anastasiia Khrustaleva and Andrea Widing. The Bulldog tandem won 6-3.

Falceto and Mikhailuk ended their rain-soaked day with a loss against Virginia Tech's Annie Clark and Chhinda Som, 6-3.

They will now look ahead to two matches apiece in singles play on Saturday. Falceto will start off against Tulane's Brooke Theis while Mikhailuk will go toe-to-toe with Taylor Cataldi of Wisconsin. Their opponent afterwards will be determined after their initial matches.

Play will begin at 9 a.m. CT but could change depending on the weather.
