Bulldogs Finish in 5th, 7th at Razorback Invite

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mississippi State track and field had multiple personal and season bests recorded at Arkansas' Razorback Invitational on the second day of competition.
"Over the weekend we showed a lot of potential to score points at the Conference Championship meet when we come back up here in a month's time," said head coach Chris Woods. "Our focus now is going to be training hard over the next two weeks and setting our sights on going to Vanderbilt and South Carolina. We need to take the momentum we gained here in certain areas and spread it throughout the team. We need to carry that momentum into the rest of the season."
The day started off with junior Jesse Henderson continuing to put in work in the heptathlon, with a first-place finish in the 60m hurdles, bringing his total to 4,016 to start the second day of the meet. He would place 11th in the pole vault which would bring him to a guaranteed personal-best finish in the hept with 4,592 after he earned 576 points for his 3.85m vault. Overall, Henderson came in eighth in the heptathlon with a new personal-best point total of 5,123 points.
Henderson also competed in the 60m hurdles with freshman Terry Smith Jr., both running to a new personal-best in the prelims. Henderson finished in 7.85 while Smith finished in 8.12.
Freshman Rosealee Cooper had a time of 8.25 in the prelims of the 60m hurdles, just one second over her personal best, but would update that best in the finals with a finish at 8.23. That time moves her into the No. 3 slot all-time at Mississippi State.
Sydney Steely ran to a new personal best in the mile, finishing in 4:43.43 in fourth place.
In the women's 400m, Katie Martin had a personal best of 56.34 in 13th place while Destini Pickens had a new season best of 56.30, finishing in 12th. Newcomer Nykah Smith ran to the highest finished of her counterparts, finishing in seventh at 55.74. San'Toria Harris finished in 11th at 56.04.
In the pole vault, Peyton Mickelson upped her season best from 3.88m to 4.00m, finishing in seventh place.
Navasky Anderson ran the 800m in 1:52.23, a personal best for the newcomer, coming in eighth overall.
In the 3000m for the men, Giacomo DeLuca came in 12th place with a season best at 8:16.44, while Chandler Underwood finished in 16th with a personal-best time of 8:19.20.
The meet was scored, with the Bulldog women finishing fifth with 35 points and State's men finishing in seventh with 22.
