TF Ready to Rock at Music City Challenge
February 11, 2021 | Track & Field
The Music City Challenge is the start of a split-meet weekend for the Bulldogs.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Mississippi State track and field program will be splitting their time between two meets over the weekend of February 12 and 13, but the majority of their time will be spent at Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge, starting on Friday.
Â
"Our improvement has been pretty steady throughout the indoor season" said head coach Chris Woods. "Our goal for this weekend is to continue that improvement. We're splitting up to try and focus on what each of our individual athletes needs to focus on. Our sprinters are going to the University of South Carolina; that is going to be a high-quality meet for those student-athletes. A lot of our distance kids and jumpers will be at Vanderbilt. That will be a very high-quality distance meet."
Â
The Bulldogs will compete against Auburn, Eastern Kentucky, East Tennessee, Furman, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Middle Tennessee, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Tennessee, UT Martin, and Vanderbilt at the Music City Challenge.
Â
Going into the weekend, the women's team is ranked eighth in the South Region by the USTFCCCA, while the men are ranked 12th in week three of the season.
Â
On day one at Vanderbilt, Shayla Broughton will be competing in the pentathlon for the second time this season. These five events will start the meet off at 12 p.m. on Friday.
Â
All field events will begin at 4 p.m., while the distance events will start at 7 p.m. for the Bulldogs.
Â
The women's field athletes will be competing in the high jump, weight throw, and long jump, while the men compete in the long jump and weight throw.Â
Â
Men's and women's distance will run the mile and the 5000m as well.Â
Â
CFPI Timing will be the provider for live results. The meet will be streamed both days on SECN+.Â
Â
The Music City Challenge will be the first of two meets to end the regular-season for indoor. Day two of the meet will begin on Saturday, and the Bulldogs will also have student-athletes competing at South Carolina's USC Indoor Open.
Â
Full meet results will be posted after the conclusion of both day one and day two of the meet with a full recap.
