MSU Women’s Tennis Opens Bulldog Kickoff With Perfect 10-0 Saturday

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's tennis went undefeated, posting 10 victories, to open the Bulldog Kickoff Saturday indoors at MSU's Rula Tennis Pavilion.
The two-day tournament, which also features players from Georgia Tech, Memphis and SEC foe Ole Miss, will conclude with two more sessions of action Sunday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
State dominated in doubles play Saturday afternoon, sweeping all four matches by convincing margins. Teaming up for the second time this season, Magda Adaloglou and Lilian Poling defeated Memphis' Sophie Abrams and Alisha Reayer 6-3. Chloé Cirotte and Tamara Racine followed suit with a 6-3 triumph over Tigers Katherine Cao and Dolavee Tumthong for Cirotte's first-ever victory wearing the Maroon and White. Emma Antonaki and Alexandra Mikhailuk paired up to top UM's Josephine Cao and Claire Sullivan 6-4, before Marta Falceto and Sara Lizariturry took down Camila Soares and Aran Teixido Garcia 6-2.
In her MSU singles debut, Cirotte upped her record as a Bulldog to 2-0 by leading the way, posting an impressive 6-0, 6-1 triumph over the Tigers' Tumthong. Antonaki continued the Bulldogs' success by notching a solid 6-3, 7-5 victory over Memphis' Abrams, rallying from 5-3 down in the second set for her seventh-straight win dating back to last spring. State's Falceto came out on top over Cao in straight sets as well - 6-3, 6-4 – also fighting back from a break down in the second set.
The last three matches would stretch to three sets, but all three Bulldogs would buckle down to pull out tough triumphs.
After two close first sets, Racine cruised in her deciding frame for 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 victory over Memphis' Reayer. After dropping the first set to Teixido Garcia, State's Adaloglou mounted a comeback to take her match 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. The victory extended her team-leading win streak to nine matches.
Mikhailuk provided the final excitement of the day for MSU as she ousted the Tigers' Soares in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 marathon.
"I'm really proud of the way we competed today," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "The matches were competitive on all courts which is exactly what we needed. Earning three-set wins goes a long way building confidence. Tomorrow will be an even bigger test against top-15 level competition. I am excited to see how our girls respond."
The Bulldogs look to continue their hot start to the weekend on day two of the Bulldog Kickoff Sunday against players from No. 12 Georgia Tech, beginning not before 2 p.m. CT. In conjunction with current COVID protocols that have been established, no fans or player guests will be allowed to attend this weekend's MSU Tennis matches.
