Darty Dennis Welcomes Evans, Stamatis to Volleyball Staff

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State volleyball head coach Julie Darty Dennis announced Tuesday (Aug. 4) the additions of Phil Evans and former Bulldog setter Alleah Stamatis to her staff ahead of the 2020 season.
"We are excited to have two high-quality individuals join our staff," Darty Dennis said. "I am thrilled to welcome back two Mississippi State graduates as they begin their careers in collegiate athletics."
Evans joins State's volleyball staff as the club's volunteer assistant coach after serving the MSU men's basketball program all four years of his undergraduate career. Evans will assist in team training, practice planning, scouting and managing statistics. The Stockbridge, Ga., native also has experience coaching volleyball, among other sports, at the high school level.
"Phil is really familiar with video breakdown and scouting from his time with the men's basketball program, so he is ready to get into a coaching role with us," Darty Dennis said. "Phil has a passion for our sport and a desire to learn, and I am really excited for him to come in and contribute to our coaching staff. He is a great teacher, and his voice will be a welcome addition in our gym."
Fresh off her playing career, Stamatis will serve as MSU volleyball's technical coordinator. Stamatis will assist director of operations Cody Drattlo with travel and day-to-day operations, and help lead in the management of equipment, statistics, scouting materials and video breakdown.
"Alleah has decided to stick around after a successful career as a student-athlete here, and I could not be more excited about this," Darty Dennis said. "Learning all that goes on behind the scenes will help her in her career path.
"She has always been a great teammate and having someone like that on our staff is going to be a huge addition for us. She is highly motivated, organized, detailed-oriented and has a great eye."
Stamatis played under Darty Dennis as a freshman and sophomore at Jacksonville, then made the move to Starkville as a transfer when Darty Dennis accepted the head coaching job at State in 2018. The Bulldog setter had two great seasons in maroon and white, including a 2019 senior campaign in which she became just the seventh Bulldog to eclipse 1,000 assists in a single season.
