State Women’s Tennis Set To Host No. 33 Tennessee Friday At 3 p.m.

STARKVILLE – After falling to then-No. 20 Vanderbilt in a heartbreaking 4-3 decision in their SEC home opener, the Mississippi State women's tennis team looks to bounce back against No. 33 Tennessee on Friday at home.
The Bulldogs (7-4, 1-1 SEC) will face the Volunteers (9-2, 0-1 SEC) at 3:00 p.m. CT Friday afternoon at MSU's A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

MSU In The Oracle ITA National Rankings…
After defeating No. 31 Georgia Drummy of Vanderbilt for her first ranked victory in dual match play this season, sophomore Emma Antonaki jumped up 34 spots this week, and leads the Bulldogs at No. 88 in the country. State's doubles pair of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine appeared at No. 56 in the country this week.
Know The Foe: Tennessee
Tennessee enters Friday's match with a 9-2 record, 0-1 in the SEC, after falling at No. 9 Georgia 4-0 to begin its SEC slate this past Saturday. The Volunteers are currently ranked No. 33 in the nation. UT boasts four players in the national singles rankings with 43rd-ranked Rebeka Mertena leading the squad. Mertena owns a 6-1 ledger in dual match play at positions 1-3. No. 59 Johanna Silva, No. 72 Kaitlin Staines and No. 103 Carly Briggs join Mertena in the rankings. In doubles, vols Tenika McGiffin and Staines pair up to form the nation's 13th-ranked pair. The duo holds a 4-1 match record at the No. 1 position.

Following Friday's match, the Bulldogs will host No. 7 Georgia and ULM in a doubleheader on Sunday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. State will face the Georgia Bulldogs at 1 p.m., before battling the Warhawks at 4 p.m.

- Mississippi State is in its 46th season of women's tennis, with Daryl Greenan in his 11th season at the helm.
- Tennessee leads the series 36-9, with their last victory coming last season in Knoxville, Tenn. by a 4-2 decision.
- However, MSU has claimed five of the last seven meetings between the teams, including three straight in Starkville.
- Sophomore Emma Antonaki earned her first victory over a ranked opponent in dual match play this season Sunday by defeating No. 31 Georgia Drummy of Vanderbilt. It was the second-highest ranked win of Antonaki's career and her third-straight win in singles.
- Junior Magda Adaloglou now owns a team-leading five-match win streak in singles (all five coming in straight sets) and has won seven of her last nine matches.
- The Bulldogs have claimed the doubles point in nine of the 10 matches it has been contested this season.
- Adaloglou and Tamara Racine are 7-2 at No. 1 doubles this spring and have won their last three in a row as a tandem.
- The freshman-senior duo of Marta Falceto and Sara Lizariturry now own an eight-match win streak, courtesy of a perfect 7-0 ledger in dual match play.
- Lizariturry's doubles victory alongside Falceto against Vanderbilt enabled the senior to move into sole possession of fifth place in MSU career doubles wins with 61.
