State Freshman Malesevic Highlights Final Day At Volunteer Showdown

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Mississippi State men's tennis team concluded play at the Volunteer Showdown Sunday with true freshman Nemanja Malesevic collecting wins in singles and doubles against players from South Carolina. Sunday's action marked the official conclusion of the Bulldogs' 2020 fall slate.
Sunday's action began with doubles as the Bulldogs battled three Gamecock tandems. The all-freshman State duo of Malesevic and Davide Tortora pulled out a tiebreak win against the Gamecock tandem of Jake Beasley and Toby Samuel 7-6(6). In other doubles action, Alberto Colas and Gregor Ramskogler dropped a 6-3 decision to Phillip Jordan and Raphael Lambling of South Carolina while Bulldogs Florian Broska and Nicolas Ocana were edged in a tight 6-4 decision by Daniel Rodrigues and Connor Thomson.
In singles, Bulldogs Malesevic and Colas would battle their way to hard-fought victories. The rookie Malesevic ousted Thomson by dominating his final two sets to claim a three-set affair 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Colas would win his match comfortably as he cruised past South Carolina's Lambling 6-2, 6-4.
In other action, MSU's Broska would fall 6-3, 6-0 to Rodrigues. The Gamecocks' Samuel would pull out a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Tortora. State's Ramskogler fought tough but ultimately dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Jordan. The MSU freshman Ocana fell in his match 6-1, 6-4 to Beasley. Closing out singles action was Bulldog junior Stedman Strickland as he faced USC senior Thomas Brown, falling 6-1, 6-3.
