Bulldogs Notch Five Victories On Day Two Of Volunteer Showdown

KNOXVILLE – The Mississippi State men's tennis team rebounded on day two at the Volunteer Showdown Saturday with four Bulldogs – Alberto Colas, Nemanja Malesevic, Gregor Ramskogler and Davide Tortora collecting wins in singles and doubles against players from Middle Tennessee.
The three-day round robin tournament, which also features players from Middle Tennessee State, South Carolina and host Tennessee, will conclude on Sunday with players from Mississippi State and South Carolina battling at 8 a.m. CT. Live stats and live video provided by UT are available throughout the weekend.
Saturday's action began once again with doubles as the Bulldogs battled three Blue Raider tandems, starting the day off with two victories. Colas paired with Ramskogler to hold off the MTSU duo of Max Rauch and Francisco Rocha for a 7-5 victory. The all-freshman State duo of Nemanja Malesevic and Davide Tortora pulled out a tiebreak win against the Blue Raider tandem of Tom Moonen and Sean Presson 7-6(5).
Wrapping up State's doubles action were Florian Broska and Nicolas Ocana who dropped a tight 6-4 decision to Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump.
In singles competition, Bulldogs Colas, Malesevic, and Ramskogler would battle their way to victories. The freshman Colas ousted MTSU's Motl in 6-1, 7-6(6) fashion. After dropping the first set 6-0, Ramskogler stormed back against the Blue Raiders' Rauch for an 0-6, 6-4, 6-1 triumph. The freshman Malesevic would also fight his way to a three-set victory, downing Moonen 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-4 in a marathon affair.
In other action, MTSU's Rocha notched a tight three-set decision over the MSU junior Broska 6-1, 2-6, 7-5. State's freshman Tortora would drop a tough three-set affair to Slump 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. MSU's Ocana fell 6-1, 7-5 to the Blue Raiders' Oskar Michalek.
