October 08, 2020 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women's tennis team opens its 2020 fall campaign this weekend (Oct. 9-11) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at the SEC Challenge.
The tournament, hosted by Alabama, will be held at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium. In addition to State, the round robin event will feature players from SEC foes Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Kentucky.
In action this weekend for MSU will be returnees Tamara Racine, Marta Falceto, Alexandra Mikhailuk and Valeria Nikolaev, and one newcomer – transfer Lilian Poling.
The sophomore Racine, and freshmen Falceto, Mikhailuk and Nikolaev, were all integral parts of State's lineup this past spring. The Bulldogs were 9-5, 2-2 in the SEC, when the season was cut short in March. Poling comes to MSU after competing at Boise State the last four seasons. The two-time All-Mountain West honoree posted a 63-37 record in singles and 66-29 ledger in doubles during her time in Boise.
MSU is set to open the tournament against players from Alabama at 2 p.m. CT on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, State will begin at 10 a.m. each day, facing players from Georgia on Saturday and Kentucky on Sunday.
