DOHA, Qatar – Four current and former Bulldogs will represent Mississippi State at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar over the next 10 days.
Current student-athletes Marco Arop (Canada) and Anderson Peters (Grenada) will compete for their home nations alongside MSU alumni Erica Bougard (United States) and Brandon McBride (Canada).
The world championships will air live on the NBC family of networks. The meet can also be streamed online via NBC Sports Gold with a track and field pass, featuring both track and field event feeds.
MSU's time at the championships begins with the first-round heats of the men's 800m on Saturday, Sept. 28. Arop and McBride are Canada's lone representatives in the event. Arop is coming off a gold-medal performance at the Pan American Games seven weeks ago where he broke the Pan American Games and MSU school records with a run of 1:44.25.
Semifinals will be run on Sunday, Sept. 29, before taking a day off on Sunday. The finals will be contested at 2:10 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Bougard, a four-time U.S. champion in the combined events, returns to her second world championships on Wednesday, Oct. 2, with the first gun in the heptathlon 100m hurdles firing at 9:05 a.m. The second day on the track begins at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, with the long jump.
She competed at her first IAAF World Championships in 2018 in Birmingham, England, where she placed fifth in the pentathlon, and she finished the 2019 U.S. Championships with 6,663 points. Her personal best is 6,725 points set in the 2018 season. That ranks third in American history.
After an eight-week hiatus, Peters will return to the javelin runway on Saturday, Oct. 5. Peters will throw in one of two semifinal flights at either 8:30 a.m. or 10 a.m.
In his last meet, the two-time NCAA champion claimed a gold medal on the back of a Pan American Games-record throw of 87.31m (286-5), which also broke his previous MSU and Grenadian national records. Should he advance to the finals, he would throw again on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 11:55 a.m.
