Mikhailuk Into Flight 4 Final At Debbie Southern; Racine, Roberts Also Post Wins

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Alexandra Mikhailuk, Tamara Racine and Meredith Roberts each registered singles wins for the Bulldogs on day two of the Debbie Southern Fall Classic on Saturday. The true freshman Mikhailuk has advanced to the finals of Flight 4 singles in her first tournament as a Bulldog.
"Every one of our girls fought hard today," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "There were lessons learned in some close losses and confidence built in battles won. Once again, the competition is tough and these matches are exactly what we need to learn from."
Saturday's play started as MSU's tandem of junior Magda Adaloglou and the sophomore Racine – ranked 14th nationally – were ousted 8-2 by host Furman's No. 35 Julia Adams and Katarina Kozarov in Flight 1's consolation finals.
In Flight 3, Emma Antonaki and Mikhailuk came up short in the finals of that draw, falling to Florida State's Sasha Hill and Petra Hule in a tight 8-6 decision.
The Maroon and White's freshman-senior pair in Marta Falceto and Sara Lizariturry were defeated by Elise Mills and Kennedy Wicker from South Carolina – also by a close 8-6 score - in consolation action.
In singles play, State's No. 41 Antonaki fell to 35th-ranked Georgia Drummy of Vanderbilt 6-2, 7-5 in Flight 1's consolation semifinals. She will face Florida State's 57th-ranked Emmanuelle Salas in the seventh-place match Sunday.
In the Flight 3 consolation semifinals, Adaloglou was bested by Duke's Chloe Beck in a tough three-set battle 6-7(8), 6-1, 6-3. The MSU junior will meet Furman's Julia Adams in the seventh-place match Sunday.
Mikhailuk cruised to a Flight 4 semifinal win over Clemson's Eleni Louka 6-3, 6-2. The freshman will face Saby Nihalani of Wake Forest in the finals of that draw Sunday morning.
In Flight 6 action, Racine overpowered Maryann Rompf of host Furman 6-2, 6-1 in the consolation semifinal. She will compete for the consolation crown of her flight on Sunday.
The MSU rookie Falceto suffered a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Clemson's Zaina Nait Omar in the consolation semifinals of Flight 8. She will prepare to play in the seventh-place match Sunday afternoon.
State's Lizariturry fell to Dasha Kourkina from Vanderbilt 6-3, 6-3 in the Flight 9 consolation semifinals. She will take on Florida State's Mira Stegman in the seventh-place match Sunday.
The Bulldog junior Roberts recorded an impressive 6-2, 6-3 win over Tennessee's Kylie Duckworth in consolation action Saturday. She will battle Sophia Sassoli of Georgia Tech in the Flight 10 consolation final Sunday.
The Bulldogs will wrap up play at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic Sunday, with the final round of singles beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
