Peters Claims NACAC U23 Title, Kowalchuk Injured

QUERETARO, Mexico/NAPLES, Italy – Reigning NCAA javelin champion Anderson Peters added another title to his resume this weekend at the NACAC U23 Championships in Queretaro, Mexico.
After fouling his first attempt, the Mississippi State sophomore from St. Andrews, Grenada, threw 78.66m (258-1) in the second round to take the lead for good. His countryman, Markim Felix would finish second with a mark of 78.10m (256-2). They were the only two athletes to break the 70.00m mark.
In the finals, Peters tossed the implement past the 80.00m arc twice, recording throws of 80.63m (264-6) and 81.89m (268-8) to cruise to a comfortable victory.
The Grenadian national record holder has now medaled in an even dozen international competitions, including eight golds.
MSU junior Karson Kowalchuk was slated to compete for Canada at the World University Games in Naples, Italy, this week, running the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. However, the Toronto, Ontario, native suffered a season-ending injury while training in Naples over the weekend.
