Baseball Falls Against LSU to End SEC Tournament Stay
May 24, 2019 | Baseball
Diamond Dawgs now look towards NCAA postseason announcements on Sunday and Monday
The seven-inning game versus the Tigers followed a 17-inning marathon won by the Diamond Dawgs, 6-5, on Wednesday night. Following the 1-0 loss to Vanderbilt with the loss to LSU, it marks just the third time in 2019 that MSU dropped consecutive games.
LSU (37-23) opened the scoring with five runs in the third inning, before Mississippi State (46-13) tallied two in the bottom of the inning. The Tigers then added seven in the fourth inning to cap the scoring at 12-2.
Sophomore Rowdey Jordan reached base four times in the game, using two hits and working two walks, scoring one of MSU's two runs. Junior Dustin Skelton collected a pair of hits and plated one RBI, while sophomore Tanner Allen had the other RBI.
Quotable
Head coach Chris Lemonis
On if the loss could spark something in the team
"[It was] a tough night. We didn't have things go our way. We could have made a couple plays, made a couple pitches or had some better at-bats in some innings to keep it going. We just have to reboot. We'll travel back to Starkville and get ready to host a regional."
On his confidence level entering next week
"We've bounced back from it all year long. Last time we played LSU at home we had some tough games like this, and we bounced back and played great afterwards. We'll be fine."
