Mississippi State Travels for Three-Meet Weekend

STARKVILLE, Miss. – A trio of meets awaits the Mississippi State track and field program this weekend. State will send athletes to two meets in southern California while a larger contingent heads to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California, began on Wednesday with Asia Poe and Zaria Tillman competing in the heptathlon. After one day of competition, Poe was in ninth place with 3,124 points. She set personal bests in the 100m hurdles and high jump. The Bulldog multis will conclude their event on Thursday afternoon.
A small squad of distance runners will also be in action in California. Caden Foos, Stephen Jones and Sylvia Russell will run the 3000m steeplechase on Thursday night along with Shannon Fair and Mia Meydrich in a late-night 5000m that will begin at 11:20 p.m.
The 800m will close the Dawgs' time out west. Charlotte Cayton-Smith and Alon Lewis are entered in the event at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Lewis is also entered for the Mt. SAC Relays' 800m on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. Daniel Nixon and Dejon Devroe, who boast the Nos. 2 and 3 times in the SEC, will run the men's race at 4:25 p.m.
State's remaining athletes will travel to Baton Rouge for the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday. "B" sections of most track events will be run in the morning with the "A" or invitational sections running in the afternoon.
Alicia Viveros and Madelyn Lee begin State's day in the discus at 9 a.m. Faith Gilbert will be the first Bulldog on the track for the 100m at 9:40 a.m. MSU will run the men's 4x100m relay at 2:10 p.m. before the "A" sections take the track.
Kenya Small will look to join the rest of MSU's 800m men atop the SEC leaderboard when he runs his first race of the year at that distance at 3:25 p.m. Riley White, fresh off the No. 3 400m hurdles time in school history, will run that same event at 3:30 p.m. Charles Brockman III and Rasheed Tatham will take their lap over the hurdles immediately following.
Alexis Farley was accepted into the invitational section of the triple jump and will take to the runway at 3:45 p.m. The meet closes with the 4x400m relays beginning at 4:20 p.m.
