STARKVILLE – A pair of Mississippi State track and field athletes have earned All-American honors after a strong indoor season that ended on Saturday at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
NCAA 800m runner-up Marco Arop earned first-team honors, while freshman Asia Poe captured second-team laurels in the women's long jump.
Arop's honor marks the third All-American selection of his career, his second indoors. The sophomore also finished runner-up in the 2018 outdoor championships to snag first-team honors last June.
The Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, native ran 1:47.00 in the 800m final to earn eight points and help State's men to a top-30 finish nationally indoors for the first time since 2014.
Poe earned the first All-American honor of her young career after placing 13th at NCAA Indoors as the only freshman in the women's long jump. Her honor marked MSU's first in the indoor long jump since Erica Bougard in 2015.
The Madison, Mississippi, native qualified for the event with a jump of 6.30m (20-8.0) at the Vanderbilt Invitational in January.
MSU now boasts a total of 247 All-American selections, indoor and outdoor combined.
Next Up For MSU …
With the indoor season in the books, the Bulldogs look to an exciting outdoor season that commences with the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays, held March 22-23 at MSU's Mike Sanders Track Complex.
